Al Gore Green Energy Goals by 2018

From the Video
Thank you for your leadership in the scientific community. I spoke with Senator Barack Obama, as well, as Senator John McCain, Who does out of the partisan framework.ladies and gentlemen. There are times in the history of our nation. When our very way of life depends upon dispelling allusions and awakening to the challenge of the present danger. We are called upon to move quickly to throw aside, old habits and be alert to the necessity of making big changes. The survival of United States of America is at risk. Gasoline prices are increasing dramatically, as well as electricity rates. Jobs are being outsourced. The climate crisis is getting a lot worse more quickly than predicted. the climate crisis is getting a lot worse, much more quickly than predicted. Scientists with access to data from Navy submarines have now warned us that there is a 75% chance that within only five years the entire north polar ice caps will disappear during the summer months. According to experts, one of the largest Greenland icebergs is moving at a faster rate than ever before. Just two days ago at 27 senior statesman and military leaders warned of the national security crisis due to our dependence on foreign oil. They seem to be longer droughts more flooding. Higher temperatures lead to drier vegetation, which leads to kindling for huge fires. Scientists in the department of geophysics tell us for every 1° in temperature lightning strikes will go up another 10%. Lightning is responsible for the conflagration in California today. We're borrowing money from China to buy oil from the Persian Gulf. If we grab ahold of that common thread and pull it hard. All of these complex problems begin to unravel. The answer is to end our reliance on carbon-based fuels. One thing has become abundantly clear. When you connect the dots the real solutions to the climate crisis are the same men measures to renew our economy. What if we can use fuels that are not expensive, don't cause pollution and are abundantly available right here at home.the face of the earth in just 40 minutes enough solar energy falls to power 100% of our energy you needs for an entire year. in the Midwest corridorthere is enough wind that passes through four. All of the United States energy needs for entire year.geothermal energy similarly is capable of providing enormous supply of electricity for America could guess the cheapest most efficient and best way to start using all of this renewable energy is in the production of electricity. We can start right now using solar power, wind power and geothermal power to make electricity for our homes and businesses, but to make this a reality. We need a new start. That is why I'm proposing today a strategic initiative that will free us from the crisis that's holding us down and regain control over our destiny. We need to re-empower America. My goal is to have America produce 100% of its electricity through a noble sources within 10 years. This goal is achievable, affordable and transformative. It represents a challenge to all Americans from all walks of life. A few years ago it would have been impossible to issue such a challenge. The dramatic price increases in oil and coal have dramatically change the energy landscape. Someone had said that if oil is $35 a barrel then renewable energy sources would become competitive. Well, oil is now at $135 per barrel. Consequently there is a lot of money going into research for all these green energy sources, renewable energy sources.as the demand for renewable energy grows, the costs will continue to fall. Let me give you one revealing example. The price of the specialized silicon used to make solar cells was recently as high as $100 per kilogram. Now contractors have prices as low as $50 per kilogram. The same thing happened with computer chips which are made from silicon. Prices have gone down 40 years in a row.here's the difference: when the demand goes up for coal sodas, the price. However, when demand goes up for a noble energy sources like solar power, the prices go down. So, we can't keep on relying on quickly depleting energy sources to fuel our ever increasing demand for energy.one source of fuel is expensive than going up, and another is free for everyone. Of course there are those who will tell us that this can't be done. Some of the voices we hear are the defenders of the status quo. Even those who read the prod profits of the carbon craze, must see the demise of this industry.after all, the Stone Age didn't end because of a lack of stones.what could we do instead. During these next 10 years. Some of our greatest accomplishments as a nation have resulted from commitments to reach a goal that fell well beyond the next election. Social Security the interstate highway system. 10 years is about the maximum time that we as a nation can hold a steady aim and hit our target. When President John F. Kennedy challenged our nation to land a man on the moon, many doubted we can accomplish that goal. But eight years later, Neil Armstrong Lance landed on the moon. We do not have a unified national grid. That is sufficiently advanced to link the areas where the sun shines and the wind blows to the cities in the East and the West that need this electricity. Today our grades are antiquated and fragile.

The World's First Tidal Turbine

From The Video
The world's first tidal turbine. It will produce enough electricity to power a thousand homes. The world's first commercial scale, tidal power machine. If the developers can prove prove that the title turbine works. They can take it to a very large scale. These tidal turbines are unlikely to harm marine life. Great Britain has great tidal power potential. the great thing about tidal power versus wind power is that it's entirely predictable. The tides come in and the tides go out every day the same way.however there is an ecological cost. Small animals, like fish can pass through the tidal turbine without problems. However, larger animals like seals might have problems. If the developers optimism is justified.

We are about to deploy the turbine. as soon as you place the turbine into the water. It starts to turn.

How Solar Energy Works

From the Video
how solar energy works. Solar panels are made from a semiconductor, usually made from silicone.solar is not just for electricity. Some homes use the sun's heat to have hot water for the house, as well as for their pools. In Washington, DC, each year, major universities at a solar house competition. They need to build a house that can. when photons from light strike the semiconductor, electrons knocked loose from their atoms and are collected and turned into direct electricity.the second largest solar plant in America is in Nevada. This solar plant is only 40 miles away from Las Vegas.solar energy is not just for electricity, some homes use solar power for heeding their water. By the year 2015 there may be up to 10 million buildings with their own solar system.

T. Boone Pickens on CNBC

Pickens seems bullish on oil, wishes he weren't. It's funny (or not): just over a year ago when this video was made, T. Boone Pickens was predicting $70 oil. Little did he know that by July of 2007 oil would reach nearly $150 per barrel.

From the Video
Petroleum politics is creating shockwaves, while gasoline inventories are down. T. Boone Pickens joins us from Washington DC.IM bullish on oil. Inventory has gone down for seven straight weeks. The market is very tight. You have the Iranian situation. The market will still move on up for oil. You are looking at $70 per barrel, very soon. How much of the price of the oil comes from actual fundamentals, and how much actually comes from the current situation with Iran. I think it's 90% fundamentals and 10% the geopolitical situation with Iran. I think the gasoline market will stay tight. The refineries have been down longer than expected. The refinery infrastructure is old. The oil that's available is the low-quality low-grade high sulfur oil that nobody wants.

T. Boone Pickens on www.pushpickensplan.com

T. Boone Pickens is posting to his video blog on youtube, trying to gather "troops" for his Pickens Plan. It seems clear whenever he speaks that the emphasis is on the $700 billion that the US pays to foreign countries for its oil. Whatever your reason is, we must add more energy sources to the country's energy portfolio. I agree with Pickens in general--we need more wind energy!

T. Boone Pickens Plan

This is the longer explanation of T. Boone Pickens' plan. The Pickens Plan has created quite the chatter across the country. Many people are skeptical of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for automobile fuel, but at least he's offering a solution to many of our energy problems. Let's keep the dialog going.

From the Video
A lot taught you about a huge problem in this country asked. So we got a figure out how to solve it. Let me show you the magnitude of it. It all started a long time ago. In 1970. We were importing 24% of our oil. We didn't have enough to supply ourselves. Then, by 1990. We are importing 42%. Now we're in 2008 and were importing almost 70%. So here you are. We've gone from 24 to 42 to 70. Let me tell you how bad the problem is. At this point here we are importing 70% and the cost is $700 billion. Multiply that $700 billion by 10 and its $7 trillion. In 10 years will have exhausted $10 trillion from our country through importing oil. What are the resources we have to work with? We have oil 7 million a day. Out of 85 million barrels every day in the world. We are using 21 million of those. Pretty bag is in it? That's 25% of this oil, and we have 4% of the people. That's a problem. Out of a thousand people in America today 750 of them have cars. The world average is 120 cars per thousand people. In China 44 people out of a thousand have a car. So you can see that we are obviously the ones with the most cars. 70% of all the oil and produced goes to transportation fuel gasoline or diesel. We have call we can't use call for transportation. We have natural gas, we have biofuels and buy a diesel. We have hydroelectric power. We also have wind power and solar power, as well as nuclear. We won't talk about nuclear power year, because you can't use it for transportation. Natural gas or compressed natural gas is the only one that can really help us with transportation. We have a lot of natural gas. There are 8 million cars in the world today that run on natural gas. It works no question. This white board becomes the United States can up here. Mexico down there. There's a model town, right here it's called Sweet water taxis. Sweet water looks like a lot of towns and rural America. Wind revitalized Sweetwater Texas. We are building a big win far farm here in Pampa Texas. Shell oil company is building one here that's 3000 MW. This is in the middle of the United States. The wind looks like this. This is the wind Corridor.we have more wind than anybody else does.you have a beautiful wind corridor over here.here's the solar and the Southwest. Wind and solar can be used but not for transportation fuel. So this is how we're going to make it work. When you look at the power generation high. 50% is coal 20% is nuclear 22% is natural gas. This one natural gas is the one I want to go to work on. When the government gives me their study. It shows they have the wind corridor are well what you focus on is the 20% that we can do from win for electricity generation. Here it is again, the red being the primary wind corridor. It's a huge resource located perfectly in the center of the country, which can be transmitted both East and West. The people want it. They like the wind, and it creates income for them. We're going to take this 22%, and really get it out of the high because were going to do. 22% on wind from the government study. Silly it .2% wind power move the natural gas out and freeing up for transportation fuel. If this can be accomplished. It will reduce a lawyer, oil imports by 38%. In dollars that will be about $300 billion in savings. If we can cut this down by 300 billion by merely doing 22% of our electricity from wind. Take out that natural gas and freeing up for transportation fuels. We have plenty of natural gas in the United States. So here is the way to accomplish a huge reduction in the outflow of 700 billion. This can be expanded even greater.

Salt Water Fuel

From the Video
Instead of paying four dollars at the gas pump, how would you like to run your car on salt water? That may sound crazy but wait till you see, what a local inventor has come up with. That could change the world. John Kansas was not looking for an answer to the energy crisis. He was looking for a way to cure cancer. Why not use radio waves to kill the cancer cells? a radio frequency generator by using pie pans. Killing cancer cells is amazing, but John has also stumbled across the fact that his radio frequency generator can process salt water eats it up and generates an amazing flame. At the AP, the company in Accra and engineers have checked out Don's amazing invention. We saw it go up to 1500°C, that temperature is incredible. The fuel is nothing other than salt water. That's the true American innovator. It's someone who's not looking for something, but nonetheless he finds it. Salt water is the most abundant thing on earth and to see it getting off a flame is kind of chilling.is some big company wants to lie up his salt water fuel technology. That's okay. He'll use all that money to fund his cancer research.

Solar Energy Breakthrough

From the Video
Israel doesn't produce oil or gas or hydraulic power, but it does have one asset that could potentially be vital for energy production. In the mag in the desert in the south of Israel. There's a report unremarkable solar energy experiment. Deep in the heart of the mag and desert there is one natural resource, the son. This research facility is trying to harness those relentless rays of sun. This is a coming out party for solar energy. This guy has been working for 30 years and finally has his solar energy breakthrough. These solar cells hold an unprecedented amount of heat. It has the concentrated light of a thousand suns on its panel. These ones produce 1500 W. Solar energy can compete with more conventional energy on a larger scale. 1000 MW is 10% of Israel's energy capacity. It's about enough solar energy for a million people. With projects like this solar energy has arrived on the scene. Solar energy is big business here in Israel. Sales have soared past the $100 million mark last year. The company signed a deal to produce the largest solar energy plant in the Mojave Desert in California. This solar energy will be sold for 10 to $.12 per kilowatt hour. In Israel, almost all of the energy comes from coal-fired power plants now, but this project can definitely change that and change the energy usage more toward solar energy. Israel is one of the places in the world and has no natural source of fuel, except of course for its great solar resources, which is about, which it is about to harness.

Biogas Energy Project at UC Davis

Check out this great biogas project at the University of California, Davis. This is definitely on a much larger scale than what I did in Costa Rica.

From the Video

Welcome to the outside power systems UC Davis biogas energy project in advanced technology that will take organic waste and create sources of renewable energy and biofuels that will help reduceour country's reliance on foreign oil to biogas energy projects demonstrates advanced animal digester technology. This digester system can handle high solid waste instead of just liquid as many digester systems do. The two different steps in the digest should process required to different types of bacteria. The first stage is hydrolysis. The second stage is biogasification.at the second stage of the process in the gasification chamber. We keep the temperature at an ideal 135°F, as well as a neutral pH.
