You just put up the solar electricity system and forget about it. You might not even think about the solar panels for 25 years. You can harvest solar energy all year round, even with a climate like Maine's. The best place for it in the US is Arizona. The upfront cost is substantial. The payback for solar energy panels is 12-15 years, currently. As energy prices go up and technology gets better these numbers will obviously change. 1 KW installed in main will give you $70 off your electric bill.
